The Best 5 Lipsticks To Start Your 2021 With

by Bepholan Beauty on

As this year begins, consider treating yourself to some of the best beauty products I use and love. If you're as obsessed with lipstick as I do, you'll be rocking these shades all year long. I choose five all time favorite lipsticks to share with you guys.

There’s nothing better than a fresh new lipstick right out of the package. The bullet is shiny, the edges are fresh, and the possibilities are endless. To me, lip colors are like friends—they're beautiful, exciting, and always there when you need them. I look back at old photographs and I remember the exact shade I was wearing and what I was feeling as I slicked it on. I keep all of my old, discontinued shades as mementos from good times in the past.

So to make the lipstick shopping process less stressful and more fun—it is lipstick, after all—we rounded up the best lipsticks out there. These are the most popular lipstick brands and their most coveted shades of the year.

Charlotte Tilbury K.i.s.s.i.n.g. Lipstick

This standout checks all of our lipstick boxes, and then some. Lusciously creamy, it feels weightless on lips, though still packs plenty of rich color (credit a unique blend of waxes). The formula also has a special complex that protects your pout from UV damage, and light-diffusing particles that create a gorgeous, satin-like finish. Plus, it layers beautifully too, whether you top it with gloss for extra sheen or layer it over a balm for even more hydration.

Maybelline New York Color Sensational Lipstick

Maybelline New York‘s creamy lipstick, a GH Beauty Award winner and GH Seal star, delivers proven vivid color and smooth wear at a bargain price. It comes in a huge range of 70 shades, from nudes to pinks, berries, reds, and beyond. In a study of over 100 women, 86% reported that the lipstick’s color looked fresh, 80% said it appeared rich and 89% found that their lips looked smooth while they were wearing it, GH Beauty Lab data assessment confirmed.

Revlon Colorburst Balm Stain

While not your classic lipstick bullet, these chubby crayons are one of our favorites. A trio of shea, mango, and coconut butter make the formula lusciously moisturizing, and the color has the staying power of a stain, yet is still buildable and supernatural. Plus, a retractable tip means you never have to worry about finding a sharpener.

NYX Professional Makeup Soft Matte Lip Cream

Yes, a great nude, pink, and red can make for a totally complete lipstick wardrobe. That being said, if you want to stock up on multiple options of each (and then some), you won’t be disappointed by the extensive amount of colors—nearly 40— that this formula comes in. There are plenty of options among those three color families, as well as deep berry tones plus more out-of-the-box hues like purple and beige. The formula is great too, creamy and cushiony but with a legit matte finish.

Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture The Slim Matte Lipstick

For a shine-free finish that won’t parch lips, kiss up to one of YSL Beauty’s 17 jojoba oil–infused shades, a winner of the GH Beauty Lab’s longwear lipstick test. The lipstick earned the highest score for not drying out lips and performed well for even and vivid color, including through the Beauty Lab’s hot-drink transfer test. Testers said they “got many compliments” on the “beautiful” and “flawless” color.
